Our First Initiative

New school books for children in India

We are thrilled to have completed our first initiative at Common Soles! Thanks to those who supported us by purchasing a pair of the Saahi flip-flops. As planned, we were able to provide new school books and supplies to the children of the workers at the facility in Vijayawada, India. These are the children of the people who made the Saahi flip-flops. It was an incredible experience for us to be able to connect with the workers' families in such a way. We can't wait to complete our next initiative!

All contributions were made directly. Rao, Co-Founder and Chief Operations Guy  of Common Soles (pictured at left), and his family were able to administer this initiative in early January while in Vijayawada.  His incredible wife Hema and 2 year old daughter (in right photo) have realized that they are now a valuable part of our team! Thanks to all that made this happen: our customers, our vendors, the media,  the factory and workers in Vijayawada. The people at Sarada Industries do fabulous work and we are grateful for their patience and willingness to partner with us.  

4% from every pair sold went to funding this initiative of new school books and supplies. At the end of the day we realized that we can efficiently administer our own initiatives such as this one.  This one was easy, we discovered that we could purchase these supplies at a discount when we ordered them in bulk. Those savings and the fact that we were at the factory anyway working on new product meant an extremely efficient process. We do however foresee other, more complex initiatives such as those in the realm of healthcare, which may require the help of other professionals. Stay tuned for details on those!

In the meantime, since it has been so popular, we have decided that we will continue to sell the Saahi flip-flop until we are out of inventory.
